  6. I was expecting to see a translated version of this, but hopefully you find it interesting none the less.

    legit Fall 2010 Chart (untranslated)

    http://yunakiti.blog79.fc2.com/blog-entry-6050.html

    • That is indeed real, as far as I can see. And using my design theme to boot, I feel happy :)

As for the english version…eh, it’s on the way.

  7. Dear Chartfag,

You are great. Just thought I should let you know.

  8. Can you send me an email so I can ask you question off the site. It’s about a potential panel I want to record.

  9. How about post a fiscal year version of all the anime charts. EX: April 2000 to March 2001

  10. What do you think about a twitter? I read your comment related to it but a twitter has the ability to use RSS, so you could use it to have RSS without having to go through any technical hoops to get it.

    • The pain of a twitter is not worth it. Not to mention that I would rarely update it – an advantage of twitter is that it allows those who make constant updates to something to mention it. I rarely need to put anything new up, so yeah…

Just check the blog, it changes rarely.

  11. I think that a French version of this “image” could be a good idea because more and more french people become fan of japanise animation.
If you need help for realize that i can help you to traduce the english version to the french.
It can be a really good idea in order too got a biggest community on this blog.

    • I welcome anyone who wishes to translate this chart into other languages.

      • Ok so can i have an email in order to contact you to translate the summer version into french ?

    • Oh sorry i didn’t see that you put an editable version, i will work on it and i already need an email.
      Thanks

      • Ok i made a french version but i got a problem with your font, i installed them but fireworks can’t use it.
        French version :

  12. hello, I would like to make a Spanish version which is great hisponoamericana community, many users will appreciate it, sorry for my bad English

  13. Wow I love the Year In Review Jpegs for all the Past years.
Can you please make the 2004-07 recaps? I have found a few more animes I did not know even existed by looking at the other ones!!
    Thanks!!!

  14. I really like your charts! I know that it takes time in using Photoshop to finish. I’m looking forward to Spring 2010 Anime Line-up V2

  15. First, thank you for the wonderful charts. Keep up the good work.
I was wondering if it would be possible for you to include the length of the series. I seem to have difficultly finding this information, probably from lack of extensive searching since I primarly just google or wikipedia the show.

  16. It is a great work that you perform.
I hope with patience your next bill.
I can not find the words to thank you for your work.
    Only “Very Thank You”

    ————————————————————-

Es un gran trabajo el que realizas.
Espero con paciencia tu proximo cartel.
No encuentro las palabras para agradecerte tu trabajo.
    Solamente “Muchas gracias”

  17. whin 2004-2007 will came out

will you mind if i do 1999
and will you how it here

  18. Hello!

I wonder if you could ask permission of the Administrator and / or the designer of the Visual Guide Winter 10 for a possible Spanish translation of it … my part in the forums speaking Latin / Spanish … thank you very much for advance.

    Greetings!
    ————————————————————————————————-
    Hola!

Me Gústaria saber si se pudiera pedir permiso al Administrador y/o al diseñador de la Guía Visual de Invierno 10 para una posible traducción al español de ella…de mi parte para los foros de habla latina / española…muchas gracias de antemano.

    Saludos!

  19. Do you accept affiliation requests? I’ve already posted a link on my ‘Blogroll’ at http://www.brainstormat.blogspot.com, so if you don’t mind?

If you don’t feel up to it, I understand. I’ll still visit and link back to your useful charts.

  20. Forget Photoshop and Fireworks… harharhar

Pick up InDesign and never look back…
trust me, you won’t regret it. Could even make do
with Illustrator, but InDesign is just too good.

    InDesign, InDesign, InDesign.

    • Christ, as soon as my own Mother tells me of the wonders of InDesign, you do as well. Get out of my head, Charles!

      I’ll check it out.

  21. Do you have a link button that you use for people to link back to the site with?

I’d really like to put a link on my blog to your site.

Perhaps you could design one for the site…

Or are you happy with me making my own one for the site? (I’m not really a fan of text links to be honest, but if that’s what you prefer then I can live with that..)

  22. I don’t know how much control WordPress gives you but centering the blog would greatly increase the usability of the site.

And as an aside, portrait layout > landscape layout. No one likes horizontal scrolling.

    • I’ll probably have to change theme to do that – which i’m fine with, since I was planning to change it at some point. Can’t say it will be soon, though.

  23. Hey Chartfag,

I dunno if this has been mentioned but ever thought about doing a digital copy like a website exactly identical instead of the picture? should be easy to do, just use the same colour scheme and graphics along with the layout too, then you could script some code together to put the group doing it & when they drop it click a button & it changes or goes to N/A til another group on a certain show or release is known. Surely you and few ppl on here would be willing to help ya out with this as we all appreciate the work you do.

    Thanks

    Paul

    • I have thought about it, and there’s a chance some people are working on such a project. However I have little intention of creating a website or doing any sort of interactive scripting – i’m ultimately just a graphic designer (an amateur at that). If someone does want to make one, that’s absolutely fine, and granted it’s good enough I would be willing to help out wherever possible.

  24. hey how about you put the name of fansub that will sub the anime,

it’ll become an useful information for us,
so we don’t need anymore to search which fansub subbing which anime

    • Something like that would be far too difficult to do, because:
      a) I can’t know exactly what fansubbers are doing what
      b) Fansubbers can drop projects, change names, etc.
      c) I don’t really have anywhere to put fansubbers
Basically – they’re far too unstable to be put on a chart simply intended to show what is airing, when and which company is doing it.

All fansubbing information you require can be found here – http://www.fansubwiki.com/Who_Subs_What:_FALL_2009

  25. i was wondering if you could make your charts in more of a landscape setup, as opposed to the portrait layout they come in now. i just think with more people having widescreen monitors, it’d just be easier to get a good look at more of the chart at once, less scrolling, etc…idk

  26. Tiny text sucks, 8 MB png doesn’t help. Perhaps you could make an SVG with images as jpegs and text as…well, text, instead of blurry bitmaps.

  27. Would it be possible to include upcoming movies as well? I find it hard to track anything outside of OVA or series down and often miss them because I never knew of their existence

  28. I think you should consider leaving out the show descriptions. They are horribly inaccurate most of the time (which I know is not your fault) and when they’re not they’re still completely unhelpful. We all know you can’t judge a show by its flavor text. Leaving them out would make the chart more compact, less work, and more reliable. Those who desperately want a description can easily google it; the main value of your chart is that it gives an overview of what is airing next season, and when, which (on the contrary) isn’t that easy to find.

    • I have thought about it, and I do understand the benefits of leaving the description of a show as vague as possible (after all, the official websites only put images on their first page). However, the reason I even put them there in the first place wasn’t just because it was a thing to do, it was because without them, people used to put down a show based on image alone, and I thought that attitude could use changing (and this was all based off roughly edited Japanese compilation charts). I expect shows like Kuchu Buranko would not receive the attention they deserve if it weren’t for a small summary – after all, those few lines are abridgements, and people intrigued by short summaries do like to research the shows in more depth.

It’s a dilemma of sorts, but ultimately I think whether it’s better or not, most people do prefer the summaries. I don’t really have the means of translating taglines or slogans the actual studios use, and I think using genres would create more complications and confusions. So I go with summaries as textual indicators over the other alternatives.

That being said, I might do something along the lines of leaving earlier charts void of summaries, and then adding them in later. That could be worth considering.

    • thanks for your work chartfag. I don’t think anyone else on the internet can get me as excited as you can, only for me to be completely let down and depressed. There is no reactionface.jpg for when I saw there was going to be a Kurozuka anime. There are many reactionface.jpg’s for when I saw the first episode. You also let me see 2 months beforehand that fall 09 is going to be fucking terrible with nothing but moeshit harem fanservice bullshit so that when the fall gets here and I watch the first ep of everything I am not completely let down.

      thankyou.

      • I can’t exactly say you deserve to be excited about anime when your taste is evidently so narrow and poor. One of your main anticipations was just some gory action-flick manga? How dull, if that is all you expect from such a wide-ranging media form I can say you deserve to be dissapointed.

I have to say shows of Kurozuka’s ilk are maybe in short supply – but that one genre does not, and cannot become the indicating factor in whether a season or an anime as a whole is good or not.

You can only divide anime by “action” and “girls”? That’s ridiculous. Personally I have no interest in moe or harem, and I am still more than satisfied with this season. Bantorra looks to be a fantasy action. Trapeze is a psychological exploration show. Darker than Black a Sci-Fi action. Blue Literature will explore old japanese classics. Blacksmith promises a RPG-fantasy esque romp. Even some Harem and SoL that I normally wouldn’t give a second glance seems to have the potential to provide pure entertainment. There’s a wide range of different shows with enough variety and flare to create a good line-up.

Perhaps if you explored more genres and demographics and experienced less of what you’re comfortable with mindlessly consuming you might actually find a REASON to continue watching anime.

        _ _ _

Normally I wouldn’t use these comment boxes to express my opinion on subjects or get into any discussions that could get heated, but seeing all this “hurr shit sucks” BS is both tiring, and moreso it cries out for some objection.

At the very least, take this comment as the reason I still continue to create these charts – I am genuinely interested in every new batch of anime and I know there is worth in every season (and there always is, no question), because anime is a form that covers many different subjects and styles of entertainment and storytelling, and I want to experience the best of those.

  29. Hello guys!, well I saw two of your charts and I was wondering where they come from and here I am lol.

Well my questions is if you are thinking to put in your page (to be more interactive), the charts but like this: Yuri series click here, shojo series click here, seinen series click here. Because its very annoying copy the name of each serie and putting into the google browser to see if the serie is for example yuri or not XD.

Another thing, if you want a little help to expand your idea for other countries with different languanje (like me I live in Venezuela), I can help you with the spanish :D,here is my e-mail (I know its a little help but a true help :D)

    • I’m sure it’s an option that could be implemented – though I honestly think you could PROBABLY work out what the demographic or genre of a series is by the picture and summary.

As for languages – people are able to download and edit the chart whenever they wish. If they post the results on this blog, i’ll provide a download link on the related post. However I am not actively looking for translations, i’m simply providing a means for others to do so.

  30. Hey, First good job in giving us these charts there great. ^^
Just one non major suggestion but could be helpful is to add something like twitter or use it to announce when you have a new release on charts etc since some people may not visit the site often or something that can announce a release.

    • Someone earlier mentioned updating RSS – thing is, apart from word of mouth and people occasionally visiting here, it seems there’s little way of finding out when it does update.

All I can advise is that I usually update it at the end/beginning of a month, so check around that time – it’s very unlikely anything will change around the middle of a month. There is a twitter here (http://twitter.com/pKjd) that would mention if there was a new chart, you might find some use in that.

      • Thanks for the hint bout the end of the month extra it should help and thanks for the reply… again good job with the charts.

  31. I know I’ll probably sound like a fag, but those dark red titles are hard as hell to read, I’d suggest brightening them up or something. Not exactly top priority, it’s readable, but you know how people will moan about it.

Stop making the charts, in fact. I look at them and think “I’ll watch ALL of them, because they all sound so great!” and I end up watching 2 or 3 series. It depresses me.

Nevertheless, you do a good job when you could do nothing, and you help a lot of people. I reckon we should be more grateful for that.

(See, I sounded like a fag!)

  32. You may, or may not like this, why not add a section for Hentai? Or separate it?

    • I second this motion.

    • I did consider it as an extra OVA section, but considering the sheer amount of Hentai there seems to be, I would rather just keep things simple. And generally something that won’t scare off sensitive weeaboo girls.

That being said, I see nothing wrong with providing a small directory of 18+ shows (if I can be bothered, of course – it’s not exactly something that interests me, surprisingly).

The animation industry deserves some support, even the more commercial end of it, and it cant get that when people don’t know about it. There are plenty of seasonal previews but not much in the way of adult stuff, and only a few sites I know actually bothers to even document it. So yeah, maybe as a small side project I could do something with that.

      • Maybe make a chart for hentai separately? I’d be willing to help with that.

  33. Hey,

I think your layout is Great & cool but ya could do with removing the little like sun effect by the big text saying “v3″ as in my opinion its looks a bit cheezy, lol.

Anyway….Here’s a recommendation for you, thats if they haven’t been mentioned before like:

    – When creating the new one for fall, well you know the way ya put the colour on the days of the week @ the top of the page (e.g. M T W T F S S) well why not put this next to the anime’s & if possible as well the broadcast day in Japan also as it would help because then you can gage from that how long the sub will be depending on the group as each group is different as i am often found on anidb.net looking up the day its broadcast so that i know when it will (roughly) be released by the group who i’m watching it thru. When i say this i mean like for example have underneith the title & description something like ” Su = Sunday or Tu = Tuesday & So on as well as Airing in JP: 08/09/09 or something like that ”

Apart from that i think the chart is just excellent as its a great way to find all the latest anime series’s to watch in any one season!!

Thanks for doing this for all us anime fans out there!!

    Zero967

    • The whole motif thing is meant to be cheesy, really. I haven’t heard much in the way of NERDRAGE about it.

About the second post….don’t I do that anyway? I can’t see much difference between your recommendation and I what I actually do. Once all the dates and times are released, I put them on the chart in order of Weekday, Date of first episode, Month of first episode – these are all the first Japanese airing times.

      Anyways, thanks for your comments.

  34. It be cool if you translated the names of the animes to English
for example for the summer 2009 chart had 2 animes that have pretty similar names
    – Umi Monogatari (sea story)
    – Umineko no naka ni (When Seagulls Cry)
Why not just put Sea Story or When Seagulls Cry?

These names are insanely hard to remember rather than the translation

    • I was in fact thinking about that recently. My only problem is that knowing the official japanese name can sometimes be helpful in finding further info based on the show, and often I am simply taking up what most of the western anime community has already decided as a name. And it’s good practice to be able to remember japanese titles rather than rely on westernisations all the time. Additionally, Japanese is not a seemless language and if I were to take one of several translations or get a wrong one completely, people are gonna start bickering.
“Bakemonogatari” doesn’t really have a good romanisation as it is effectively a pun, and “bakemono” doesn’t mean exclusively one thing like “monster” or “ghost”.

“Tatakau Shisho” may sound cool in Japanese but it effectively translates to “Fighting Librarians” which for a romantic fantasy really does not fit at all, in fact it’s ridiculous. DARKER THAN BLACK: Ryuusei no Gemini provides some problems – meteor may seem more correct but it doesn’t really mix with the theme for the show, something more “star” based will.
Unlike fansubbers or scanlators, I am not a translator and I can’t decide by myself.

In the end, I might consider putting both english and japanese translations on anyway, that makes things easier. TTGL was referred to as “Maiking Break Through Guren Lagan” before it was released and nobody refers to it as that now.

  35. also i love the color scheme you used for summer 09. maybe from now on you could use colors that match the season the chart is for? just a though

  36. The font size for me is fine, it’s just the artifacts from .jpg compression are really clouding things up.
you should save these in .png if you could. the file size will be bigger unfortunately, but it will be much, much easier to read.

  37. Can you make a second chart with bigger pictures/font? The whole goal is to enlarge the font. What’s the point of adding font to something that you can’t read? If you make two charts, one small and one large then that should be fine. Otherwise make the font bigger.

There are more than enough people that complain about this.

    • No. Why can’t you read the font? You’re either shortsighted, your browser zoom settings are screwy or it’s a problem with your monitor. People are more likely to complain about things than praise them, and out of hundreds of people who have shown total ease at the image, I can only bring up five who haven’t. I can even read the font fine enough on the blurry thumbnail on the front page.

As I said, I want to keep it simple.

  38. I think you should stop making them because you get all the anon’s excited for nothing.

    • Then the Japanese make their own, we copy it, add names to the pictures and discuss that. Same thing – except people generally bitched more about the season being shit despite not knowing about any of the shows – hence the studios, summaries, and the dates help things as well.

Besides, someone would end up making a chart anyway. It’s now a standard.

  39. Really helpful but can you make them a little bit bigger? The text is kind of hard to read on the Summer ’09 one.

    • I purposefully try to keep the charts small in most aspects, so it keeps the filesize and size in general low. It’s tiring to have to scroll over a huge image.

People have mentioned that the text is a bit small, but ultimately it’s a minority of 1 or 2 people. It may be a problem on your end, regarding your monitor or resolution – or you could just zoom in.

      • Thank you for keeping the images small. For the few of us out there on dialup I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  40. Make them prettier. The background should be pink.
